Technical Development Manager – Consultant  (5/03/2015 – Present)

Product and application development of alkaline and peroxygen chemicals in all markets. Including sales and marketing responsibilities.

 

Technical Development Manager Peroxygen Chemicals  (4/01/2009 – 5/02/2015)

Specific responsibilities are the technical development of peroxide chemicals such as peracetic acid and sodium percarbonate to enhance and optimize their application while improving the quality of the earth’s air and water/wastewater without contributing to its pollution and demonstrating their effectiveness to do so. Appointed to the Water Environmental Federation (WEF) Disinfection Committee and contact for Solvay to the USEPA for the CRADA. The CRADA is a three year study of the performance of peracetic acid as a wastewater disinfectant at the EPA’s R&D Facility in Cincinnati, OH.

 

Technical Development Manager (2/18/2004 – 3/31/ 2009)

Responsible for the development of all Solvay Chemicals products with special focus on the air emission control markets. As a result of developing the trona product named “T200” for the flue gas industry the product demand had increased so rapidly that the trona production plant had to expand from 80 KTPY to 320 KTPY. We were planning to double the existing size again within the next several years. My responsibilities increased to cover all of Solvay Chemical product lines, but my focus was narrowed to the technical perspective.

 

Manager, Trona Products (10/ 1/ 2000- 2/18/2004)

Manage all aspects of trona business. Primary function was to develop the business via new product application development and selling the product to potential new users. Sales were approximately nine million dollars per year. Added $2.5 million in sales in the coal powered utility industry.

Senior Application Engineer (1994-1997)

Responsible for technical support to customers, marketing and sales groups, distributors, and business management for the development of bicarbonates and related products in all of its industrial markets. Managed seven employees, with a budget of $1.5 million per application segment with sales of $50 million. Responsible for conceiving and developing new products and applications in current and new market areas. Responsible for market research and analysis, and business plan development Experienced in medical, potable water treatment, wastewater treatment, air/environmental, food industry, and related market areas.

 

Welland Chemical Ltd., Mississauga, Ontario

 

Technical Manager (1990-1993)

Provided technical support to sales, production, marketing, and distributors throughout the world. Started-up moth balled 60,000 TPY nitric acid plant in less than one year, three months ahead of schedule and 10% under budget. Completed plant-siting study for proposed production site in the southeast USA.

One of five people that started a new company (capitalized at $8 million) to produce and market sodium borohydride, a specialty chemical serving the pulp and paper, pharmaceutical, fine chemical, and electronics industries having $80 million/year sales in North America. Prepared business and marketing plan targeting 10% market share. Key person in manufacturing, plant start-up, business planning and sales decision making.

Managed $30 million sales of soda ash in the northeast USA and Canada. Increased sales and exceeded target by 3% by establishing a bagging operation and distribution network, and obtaining high netback hopper truck business in a loose market. 1976-1985 FMC Corporation, Philadelphia, PA and Princeton, NJ, Sales Representative (1983-1985) Senior Research Engineer (1976-1983) Managed largest sales territory, $20 million/year, for FMC’s Industrial Chemical Group, total revenues $1 billion/year. Accomplished a 10% sales increase by adding three major customers. Performed technology and economic assessments for potential investments, retrofits and new product production. Research engineer responsible for six successful plant start-ups.
